Max provides a “stoically solemn” vocal in a duet with Anneli Drecker on the song Turi, a swirly and cinematic new track from Chilean artist Kuky Tala.

The next Camphor record is currently in production. Meanwhile, there's a Camphor track called "Enjoy The Struggle" that's available right now as a free download, exclusively from the fine folks at RCRD LBL.

SPRING 2010

U.S. car manufacturer Chrysler aptly chose the Camphor song "Confidences Shattered" to promote their new 60-day money back guarantee on the Town & Country van. Have a look at the clip on the Terrorbird Vimeo channel:

"The Sweetest Tooth" was recently featured in ABC Family's critically-acclaimed witty/geeky/campy TV series The Middleman, which is based on the comic created by Javier Grillo-Marxuach and Les McClaine. 'Tho the season is over, you can still catch the episode on iTunes...

Oh, Canada! We're happy to say that the "Castaway" video had its broadcast premiere on Much Music's alternative video show The Wedge last weekend, in the company of clips from other fine acts such as She & Him, Vampire Weekend, Gorillaz and Joy Division. Thanks for the love, Much...

Howdy folks... we just found out that The Deli Magazine has nominated us for consideration as their next Artist of the Month. Now it's up to the website's visitors to select which of the 8 nominated bands will be crowned. 'Tis an honour just to be nominated, of course... but it'd be great to actually win, so if you've got a second to visit http://www.thedelimagazine.com and throw your support behind us we would greatly appreciate it. Voting is open until July 15th. Cheers!

June 25th, 2008

Just thought we'd pass along excerpts from some of the fine press the album has been getting since its U.S. release in April:

Outburn Magazine: "... more or less flawless ..."
Filter Magazine: "an immaculate first album.... highlighting Max's engrossing voice and expressive lyrics"
Stereo Subversion: "Camphor make a whole album that could be interpreted in many different ways, all of them good."
All Music: "Lichtenstein turns out to be a surprisingly effective pop songwriter, with a particular knack for choruses that subtly insinuate themselves into the subconscious after only a couple listens"
PopMatters: "Drawn to Dust is a beautifully organic album, full of songs with a complexity that practically breathes and whose life cycle you can hear."
Tiny Mix Tapes: "picture-perfect atmosphere..."
Detour Magazine: "This is music of worn wood and rough fabric made smooth, and it has a wonderfully lived in feel..."

Nice, right? You can have a look at these complete reviews and more in our EPK...

Oh, and stay tuned for good news about the availability of the record in Europe!

castaway still

Here’s a bit of exciting news: Pitchfork just premiered our first music video in their Forkcast. The song is "Castaway" and the video is a retelling of the classic siren myth as performed by a cast of PLAYMOBIL® characters. Like all good myths, it even has a moral... that the pursuit of of wealth and power will lead to destruction, but all obstacles can be overcome in the pursuit of love! A bit sentimental, sure... but we managed to balance the sentimentality with a healthy dose of black humor. Please check it out and spread the word!!! We need as many views as we can get in this critical debut window. Cheers, friends...

April 1st, 2008

It's finally here... We're pleased to say you can now find Camphor's debut CD in all its vellum-wrapped glory on the shelves of fine independent record shops (and amongst the pages of your favorite mailorder websites) across the U.S....

Reviews are starting to trickle in too, and so far we could not be happier with the reception... here's a couple early words to dip into if you like:

march 29th, 2008

In honor of the impending release of our debut CD, Camphor was SUPPOSED to play and socialize at Sound Fix Records in Brooklyn this Sunday, BUT unfortunately we just got word that the cafe/venue-portion of their store was shut down by the city last night, so all shows there are cancelled ’til further notice...

We’re exploring options for another release-related-event in the near future, and we’ll be sure to keep you posted as plans develop. Sorry for the trouble!

Oh, and please stay tuned for some more exciting news next week...

Happy to say we survived our intense CMJ extravaganza, and even earned a few gold star stickers in the process ('tho you might have to do some scrolling to see 'em). Sincerest thanks to all of you who skipped work and/or stayed out late to be there with us...

Check out some photos in our album if yer curious.

Our label Friendly Fire recently posted 2 tracks from our forthcoming album "Drawn to Dust" as free MP3 downloads... so instead of waiting 'til April 1st, you can add "The Sweetest Tooth" and "Confidences Shattered" to your digital music collection right now... and feel free to share with your friends.

OCTOBER 10th 2007

SO! We're back from a very enjoyable trip to Montreal and geared up for a full day of CMJ activities in NYC on Thursday, October 18th...

First up, we'll be performing at two parties during the afternoon, both of which feature free admission, food and drink... so skip work and come say hello at the Terrorbird Media party at Piano's (1pm) and the Redeye Distribution party at Mo Pitkins (4pm).

Best of all, our official festival showcase is at the excellent venue Joe's Pub, on a double bill which includes our labelmates Elk City. The show starts at 11:30 PM, and for you non-CMJ-badge-holders tickets are available now for $10. Please join us if you can... this one is important, and it's the perfect place to hear us play.

Happy to say we've also been selected as the CMJ featured artist of the day for October 10th... check out the official festival blog if yer curious.

Big news: We're real pleased to announce that Friendly Fire Records will be releasing the debut Camphor LP "Drawn to Dust" in the US and Canada in February April of 2008... yes, we know it's still a while to wait, but we promise it will be worth it.

MAY 22nd 2007

Glitterhouse Records has just released The Empire Strikes Back, a 2-disc compilation showcasing the venerable German label's excellent roster of artists. Included in the collection is the Camphor track "The Sweetest Tooth"... which represents the first official appearance of a track from DRAWN TO DUST out in the wild. You can grab a copy of the release (for next to nothing, we might add) at the Glitterhouse website.
